![]() One advantage Andriel has over the others is that she can use ranged attacks without ammo her staff fires magic bolts that merely cost some mana. If you play with a second player, you can coordinate, but either way, know that skills and abilities are not as important here as they are in other third-person adventure games. You'll only choose abilities and skills for your character anyone controlled by the AI will level up and select abilities on their own. For example, Andriel could be an offensive or defensive mage, depending on which spells you choose for her. Farin, having the most hit points and several abilities to keep enemies focused on him, is likely to break off last if at all.Īs you get deeper into the game, the characters start coming into their own more, and you can specialize. Andriel, having the least amount of hit points, will likely be the first to run away and use magic. Regardless of your class, you'll be getting your hands sticky with blood as you use your melee weapon. Instead, your class basically dictates how fast you run away from the front line. Unlike other games, classes in Lord of the Rings: War in the North are less about tactical assessment and arrangement. Don't read on if you're worried about spoilers.Īfter first loading up the game, you'll be thrown directly into the character select screen. If it wasn't for the game's graphics, combat and connection to the Lord of the Rings franchise, I would've given it a failing score. We'll try to keep plot to a minimum and focus on the action, but sometimes it may be unavoidable. Its just not a very good game, and I cannot recommend you buy it. It goes from easy, to insanely hard, to easy. Instead of placing visible barriers, you will constantly hit invisible walls when playing. There is no character development (there doesn't need to be, but in this case, it couldn't hurt), barely any unique story, and the coding is sub par. The english characters of the franchise are voiced by American voice actors, which I find to be unacceptable. It started off strong, with great graphics and good combat. But, I was very disappointed with this game. My dad got me any and all the Lord of the Rings video games out there, and let me tell you, I loved all of em. My dad got me any and all the Lord of the Rings video games out there, and let me tell you, I Growing up, I was a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Growing up, I was a huge Lord of the Rings fan. This game will please LOTR fans, but unfortunately it will not make any new LOTR fans. I payed $20 for the game, and I feel like I got what I payed for out of it, but no more. I had no issues with bugs like some of the other guys. I actually found some of the voice acting pretty lame at times, but it was average on the whole, I suppose. The three playable characters have different play styles which can accommodate most players But it's still just a hack&slash. ![]() Equipment management is pretty lacking, with a rather unfriendly equipment interface. The game play is a classic hack&slash with little variation. That being said, the story is very linear, and the same should be said about the levels. Accurate and interesting LOTR lore is what kept me wanting to play. This game is great for RPG'ers that love getting into the nitty-gritty when it comes to learning about other characters and lore of the game.
